Beguiler is a Subclass of Cipher in Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire. Subclasses are a specialization of a main Class, and can be mixed for Multiclassing. The name of the resulting mix will be the same as it would have been for the primary class, regardless of the subclass you have taken.
"Beguilers emphasize the mind-bending powers of ciphers, relying on deception and illusion to defeat their enemies. Some beguilers are known for their odd sense of humor, love of riddles, and fondness for Wael, god of dreams and secrets."
Beguiler Subclass Information
Bonus:
- All Deception Cipher spells have +20% range.
- +5 Focus (+1 more for every Cipher Power Level) on scoring hits with Deception spells against Flanked, Body Affliction, Mind Affliction targets.
Penalty:
- Soul Whip provides less bonus damage and reduced Focus against targets that are not vulnerable to Sneak Attack.
Beguiler Tips & Notes
- See Builds for ideas on how to create strong characters
- Beguiler also improves weapon attack, but rely on sneak or flank fighting style. (multiclassing with Assassin is a good idea)
- Beguilers gain back Focus when casting Deception spells, so they will be casting them frequently between attacks. This means they won't have time to use the Abilities that some other Classes provide, should they Multiclass.
- Rogue synergizes well because of the bonus to Sneak Attack damage, and Chanter and Ranger both have Abilities they can use that don't require the Beguiler to stop casting.
