The Best Defense is a Shield in Pillars of Eternity 2.
The vindictive contestants of the Crucible gave birth to this brutal buckler design. A barbed steel spike projects from its center, designed to punch through plate, chain, and skin. No amount of scouring will cleanse the bloodstains from its base. The buckler's presence inspires fearful cringes from combatants and sympathetic winces from gentler audience members, evoking uninvited tales of seemingly lost battles turned by a timely shield bash to the gut, groin, or eye.
Though none seem to know who first crafted this buckler, Kazuwari denizens attest that dozens have worn it into the pit over the years of fighting. Your inheritance of it suggest that its previous bearers have learned the cruel, final lesson of the Crucible: even those bearing the best arms inevitably pay the pit its due.

Players can only upgrade a Unique Shield's Quality to a higher tier level. Upgrading the Quality only affects its Deflection by 2 points.
The Best Defense Unique Enchantment Upgrades
Enchantments play a vital role in a player's equipment, these Enchantments provide different special effects that can be used as an advantage in battle. Some Unique Shields carry multiple Enchantments that players may equip and some Unique Shields only has one Enchantment. These Enchantments can only be found in Unique Items and can be upgraded if needed.
Players can unlock all of the upgrades listed for a Unique Shield's Enchantment, however, some upgrades replace the current enchantment, and some can be stacked as bonus effects. By doing this, players must have the required ingredients and sufficient Copper Pands (CP) to be able to craft their preferred upgrade.
